ALFAMA

Alfama is one of the oldest districts in Europe and the former red light district of Lisbon. Surviving the great earthquake of 1755, Alfama is home to relics of the Arabic occupation in the 8th century, roman ruins and monuments regarding the foundation of Portugal 900 years ago! This maze-like little village inside the center of Lisbon will transport you to a simpler time where kids play on the streets, neighbors get together on a daily basis, doors are not locked and where the cars don't fit. Come wander these lost in time streets with a home made ginjinha, discover the birthplace of fado or just chat while drinking a portuguese glass of wine and tasting an amazing cheese platter.

It includes:

  • Cathedral of Lisbon
  • The castle of Lisbon
  • Labyrinth of old Alfama streets
  • History of Alfama
  • History of fado
